Before booking a studio, you want to know if it fits your project. This page describes the room, the acoustics, and the technology we work with. Everything related to bring-your-own-device is also included. If any questions remain, we are happy to clarify them before booking.

In the following sections, we will go through what to expect on the day of the shoot: room and reverberation, microphone setup, camera and lighting, the separate control room, and the formats we deliver.

The Recording Room

The recording room is designed for the spoken word. It is large enough for two speakers and one camera position, but not so large that speech becomes echoey. The seating arrangement allows for a clean separation between interviewer and guest, ensuring their microphones do not dominate each other. There is space for a tripod, monitor, or teleprompter; please mention any special requests when inquiring.

Room Acoustics and Reverberation

Acoustics are what distinguish one room from another. Absorbing surfaces reduce reflections on walls and ceilings, while diffusing elements distribute the rest. For speech, the reverberation is short; for music, it would be too dry. The ventilation runs at a reduced speed so that it is not audible in the headphones. This sounds like a detail, but it is the reason why recordings from this room rarely need post-processing.

  • Speech sounds dry without losing body.
  • The ventilation remains inaudible in the headphones.
  • If you need a reverberation measurement value, please ask for it when booking.

Microphones and Preamplifiers

We work with condenser microphones for speech and dynamic microphones for loud or active situations. The preamplification is low-noise, ensuring that even quiet voices are captured cleanly. Separate channels are available for two speakers so that levels or pitch can be adjusted separately later. If you bring your own microphone, we will test it before recording.

Camera, Lighting, and Background

For video productions, camera and lighting setups are ready, with different configurations depending on project size. The background can be neutral, staged, or designed as a greenscreen. The lighting is chosen so that faces do not shine and the background does not push into the foreground. If you are arriving with your own camera team, we will coordinate positions in advance so that the setup does not happen during the shoot.

Control Room and Monitoring

The control room is separate from the recording room. This means the editorial and technical staff can listen in without being in the same room. You can guide the speaker via headphones and a return channel without it ending up in the signal. For live productions, the control room is the place where the feed and the audio return path are monitored.

  • Separate control room Editorial and technical staff listen in without being in the room.
  • Return channel Guidance via headphones without ending up in the signal.
  • Live component Feed and audio return path are controlled from the control room.

Signal Chain and Formats

Depending on the project, we record in suitable formats. For speech, a high-resolution recording is often sufficient; for TV productions, standard formats that fit into common editing systems are required. We deliver files in a format that can go into editing without additional conversion. If your broadcaster requires a specific target format, please specify it in your inquiry.

  • Voice recording High-resolution, suitable for further processing in editing.
  • TV formats Standard formats that fit into common editing systems.
  • Target format Specify the desired broadcaster format in your inquiry.

What you should bring

Bring your questions, your scheduling requirements, and, if available, the shooting schedule. If you want to use your own equipment, let us know in advance. If you are arriving with a team, state the number of people so the room is not overcrowded. For guests with special needs, ask about access so we can check what is possible in advance.

Tech check before booking

For complex projects, a quick check before booking is worthwhile. We then go through the questions that would otherwise cost time later: how many speakers, which camera, which target format, what timeframe. For a pure voice recording, a short description is often enough. For a TV production with a live component, however, the check is useful to avoid improvising on the day of the shoot.

Frequently asked questions about technology

Is the room quiet enough for a voice recording?

The room is designed for speech, reverberation is reduced, and the ventilation runs at a throttled speed. If you require a reverberation measurement, please request it when booking. The room is not designed for outdoor recordings or very loud environments.

Can I bring my own equipment?

Yes. Please let us know in advance what you are bringing so that we can plan positions and cabling. For microphones, we will test them before the recording. For cameras, we will clarify the position so that the setup does not block the speaker.

Do you work with a green screen?

Yes, a green screen setup is possible. It must be mentioned during the inquiry because lighting and distance depend on it. For very large setups, a soundstage is the more suitable choice.

Next step

You have checked the technology — now let's talk about your project.

Write to us about what type of recording is planned, how many speakers are coming, and what target format the broadcaster requires. We will get back to you with an assessment of whether the recording room or a larger space is the right choice.
